About Us

Edmund Waller is a vibrant, creative and nurturing school. Our extensive site and spacious setting give all our children the room to explore their learning, be themselves and make the most of the opportunities they are presented with.

At Edmund Waller humanity, creativity, and ambition underpin everything we do. These core values are the fundamental keystones on which the school is built. Developed by all the stakeholders in our community, they thread through our curriculum and encapsulate our ethos. We have high expectations for all children and ensure everyone is treated fairly and respectfully.

Our curriculum is broad and balanced and reflects the intercultural community here in Telegraph Hill. Children begin to develop a sense of where they fit in the world as they learn about London and beyond. We foster their curiosity as they journey through school, encouraging them to be socially responsible citizens who understand not only what came before but also think positively about the future and their place in it. Through a carefully constructed curriculum, we ensure that our children develop the skills and knowledge necessary to be prepared for the demands of the 21st century.

The creative arts are an important part of life at Edmund Waller; specialist teachers ensure that art and music are taught to a high standard and all children have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument. This provision is bolstered by an extensive range of music clubs before and after school. We have regular performances at various London venues, including a whole school concert at Goldsmiths College.

We believe that wellbeing is central to children’s success. Alongside our academic curriculum, we aim to develop resilient children who are emotionally intelligent and self-aware. We have three school rules: ready, respectful, safe. Children understand the importance of these rules and are supported not only to follow them but reflect and restore if these rules are broken. Our strong PSHE curriculum explicitly teaches children about healthy relationships, respecting differences and keeping safe.

Everyone is welcome at Edmund Waller – I look forward to working with you and your family. If you would like to visit our school, please email hello@edmundwaller.lewisham.sch.uk.
